International Civil Aviation Day is celebrated every year on December 7th. This is a professional holiday for flight personnel: pilots, navigators, flight mechanics, stewardesses. Ground service workers also join the celebrations: dispatchers, technicians, tankers, employees of various airport structures; employees of design bureaus and aircraft manufacturing enterprises; teachers and students of specialized educational institutions.
The date of the holiday has a symbolic meaning. December 7, 1944 in Chicago (Illinois, USA) an agreement was signed by 52 countries on the establishment of an international civil aviation organization (ICAO, English ICAO), known as the "Chicago Convention".
Three years later, ICAO became a specialized agency of the UN. The essence of the creation of such an organization was to establish common rules for flights on the territories of the participating countries, the introduction of international standards (assigning individual four-letter codes to world airports).
In 1992, ICAO announced the establishment of International Civil Aviation Day. But they began to celebrate it only two years later, on the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Chicago Convention. In 1996, the UN General Assembly, at the urgent request of ICAO, adopted Resolution No. A / RES / 51 / 33, in which it proclaimed December 7 as International Civil Aviation Day.
On this holiday, cultural events and amateur art concerts are held. Demonstration performances of pilots are arranged. The management of aviation companies awards the best employees with certificates of honor and diplomas.
